Arrow Electronics, Inc. and key suppliers of lighting components will sponsor the LED Luminaire Design Competition with the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) at the University of California, Davis. Students will design, develop and prototype a fully working LED-based lighting fixture (light-emitting diode) using a development kit of products provided by Arrow and its suppliers, including Magtech Industries, OPTEK Technology OSRAM Opto Semiconductors and Tyco Electronics.

Designs will be evaluated on the creative use of LED technology, and overall functionality and design, by a panel of judges to include CLTC and supplier representatives. Winning designs will be displayed at LIGHTFAIR International 2009, in the Arrow Electronics booth (#2575), May 5-7 in New York City.

"Design education is more than the evaluation of the end result as learning occurs through the creative process. This competition enables industry partners and UC Davis to collaborate in the education of future designers, architects and engineers."
