Entry Level Ceramics Engineer

Location: Beverly, MA

OSRAM SYLVANIA Central Research and Services Laboratory, in the Research – Solid-State Lighting and Materials Science department, is seeking a talented, entry-level Ceramic Engineer to support research in ceramic materials for lighting solutions. In this position, and with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, you perform moderately difficult and responsible work, requiring professional, scientific, and technical training represented by graduation from a four (4) year college or university of recognized standing. The ideal candidate is capable of working in a team environment, against customer deadlines, to deliver research output. The candidate organizes work, follows prescribed methods and guidelines, and recognizes conditions and results that may affect the findings.

The candidate will be responsible for thermal processing and furnace maintenance of a variety of specialty and common furnaces used in ceramics research, development, and production. Additionally, working under instructions from senior technical staff, perform various research, process, and inspection tasks to prepare prototype and pilot quantity samples for analysis, measurement, or delivery. As programs/projects mature and technology is transferred to development and manufacturing, grow as a key contributor to the department’s skill set and overall technical knowledge exchange within OSRAM SYLVANIA.

Candidate will have a B.S. degree in ceramics, chemical, processing, or similar engineering or technology.

Preferred candidate will have some industrial experience with ceramics research, processing, or manufacturing, ideally including thermal processing and furnace maintenance.


Team player and individual contributor work styles are equally important.

Ability to follow instructions (English) with excellent verbal and written communication (English) skill a must.

Must be hands-on with a mechanical, “can-do” mindset.
