Optical Scientist for Lighting Research

This individual will, within OSRAM SYLVANIA Products Inc.’s (OSPI) Central Research Organization, the incumbent will investigate, model and prototype high performance optical systems for use in diffuse and/or focused lighting applications. Challenges will include component and system-level design problems involving reflective and refractive optics, nano through macro scale optical features and be considerate of human factors science, engineering and integration. A successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver capable of managing multi-disciplined technical challenges and adept at realizing practical solutions.

The person filling this position will be the an expert in optical research who exerts significant influence on major organizational objectives, collaborating with related peer technology and business resources within OSPI’s global research and development organization.

Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

- Technical Leadership of optical systems development
- Specification and implementation of optical modeling capabilities
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external resources to prototype new optical lighting systems
- Testing and validation of new optical lighting systems
- Proposing and filing invention disclosures

Requirements:

- BS in Physics, Applied Optics or Optical Engineering with 12+ years relevant experience, including Lighting Design or MS with 7+ years relevant, or Ph.D. with 3+ years relevant experience
- Proficient in use and application of optical design and CAD software (ASAP, LightTools, SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Limited domestic and international travel
