Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Engineering Specification Manager, this position is responsible for assisting in examining Marketing specification and Market condition to develop Engineering product specifications for assigned projects.  Responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned tasks, this position is accountable for ensuring that all assigned activities are in line with company goals and objectives to introduce new products as well as optimize profitability of existing and mature products for the Portland operation.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Engineering Specification Manager in creating new and redesigned Engineering specifications, as assigned, in an agreed upon time frame.
2. Has direct responsibility in seeking approval for their product concepts and specifications.  This shall be done in partnership with the VP of R&D, Director of Systems Engineering, Engineering Specification Manager and Engineering Project Managers.
3. This position may at times be responsible for being the Project Champion.
4. Responsible to attend weekly team meetings as required for advancing execution of projects and assignments.
5. Responsible for assisting in advising and answering technical questions of engineering staff on interpretation of Engineering and Marketing specifications.
6. Responsible for updating and maintaining assigned Engineering Specifications throughout the length of the engineering project.
7. Responsible for reporting major feature changes and addition to the Engineering Specification Manager for Market specification updating.
8. As required, attend sales meetings and visit customers and end-users; occasionally conducting product training presentations and research.
9. Shall be fully knowledgeable of assigned product groups and act in an advisory capacity regarding product information to Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Marketing, Customer Service, Tech Line, and the sales organization.

Job Qualifications:

1. A Bachelors Degree in a technical field and at least 5 years working in a technical field, preferably with exposure to electrical, electronics (including microcontrollers) and software.
2. Competent in PC use including Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Visio, Internet Explorer and some limited 2D and 3D mechanical CAD preferred.
3. Must be able to take direction from Specification Manager, but must also be self-reliant, a self-starter and possess excellent oral and writing communication and problem solving skills.
4. Knowledge of Leviton product line and channels of distribution preferred.
5. Capable of occasional travel to attend meetings or visit customers.
6. A highly developed level of creative skills and resourcefulness to manage the product function is required.  Must apply critical thinking skills to determine best approach to bring new products to market and to work with engineering, product management, operations, marketing and sales staffs.

Physical Demands:

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, listen, talk, and use hand/finger motions to handle office equipment.
2. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but must maintain efficiency despite white noise and surrounding colleagues’ phone conversations.
