This position performs analysis to develop design options or recommendations for LED systems and components. Ensures compliance with government and organization engineering standards. Works on a combination of engineering specialties covering more than one discipline. Plans and executes complex design and development projects. Position has direct reports that require technical guidance and supervision. Contributes to the intellectual property of the company. Works with limited supervision. Travel required for customer / supplier visits. 

Responsible for the complete product design from concept to manufacturing. Prefer hands on automotive product development experience with strong problem solving skills, having developed at least one automotive project through PPAP.  Responsible for material selection, mechanical analysis, tolerance studies and failure analysis. Must be able to complete multiple tasks effectively, including work prioritization and program management to specifications, schedules and budgets in a results oriented environment.

Creativity - must be able to concept numerous ways to achieve a design and review concepts in a team environment.  Designs must utilize state of the art techniques that lead the company technology foundation.  Must have the ability to recognize assembly issues and suggest cost effective solutions.  Support prototype builds including SLA models, machined parts and others. Must have excellent communications skills to explain designs to groups at all levels and technical abilities. Enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and highly innovative, can do attitude, resourceful problem solver, comfortable in a fast moving and highly dynamic environment.

BS required in an engineering discipline (mechanical or electrical).
5+ years experience in product development preferred

- LED systems product development focus
- Knowledge of visible LED applications/packaging
- Knowledge of automotive lighting systems & lighting products very strongly preferred
- Experience in working with Tier 1 and OEM customers to design lighting solutions
- Proficiency in mechanical, thermal (FEA) design and materials selection of complex die cast metal and plastic parts, sheet metal components, harness design and layout of the mechanical requirements for LED products.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully transitioning new automotive product design through PPAP and into production
- Experience with multiple rapid prototyping techniques
- Familiar with techniques used to assemble products including ultrasonic, RF, Resistance and laser welding, riveting, screw fastening, adhesives, snap & press fit and living hinges
